Blackheath Prep School Multi-Use Hall & Gym
Following the successful completion of the Library & Classrooms at Blackheath Prep School, Waingap Contracts Ltd were invited to tender for the Design & Build Contract for the construction of a new Sports Hall and the upgrade of the existing Gymnasium.
The school consists of a series of buildings, some of which are listed, set in a conservation area.
The project consisted of the demolition and removal from site of temporary buildings, the erection of a multi-purpose hall with amenities block and the refurbishment of an existing gymnasium.
The building is constructed with a steel frame, beam and pot floor with brickwork externally and fair face blockwork walls internally.
Externally powder coated aluminium doors & windows are fitted throughout and internally the door frames are in solid oak and the doors in an oak veneer.
A hot water underfloor heating system is installed in both the new hall and existing gym.
The underside of the roof is clad with an acoustic rated suspended ceiling and the floor finished with a specialist sports flooring.
All toilet and kitchen walls are fully tiled and the toilets are fitted out with laminate finish washroom systems. The new facilities were opened by local celebrity Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen in June 2006, and the school were presented with a piece of sculpture “Speculation” by a local artist to display in the hall lobby.
